but first,cleanse

Why is cleansing your skin so important?

Think about all the environmental pollutants you’ve come in contact with throughout the day. Think about the sweat, makeup and oil build-up on the surface of your skin.

Do you really want to put that on your pillows?

Cleansing helps to draw out those impurities in your skin, resulting in clearer skin. It helps boost your hydration levels which helps maintain a healthy barrier function that keeps out bacteria and pollutants. Lastly, cleansing helps your products absorb. So if want the maximum benefits of that new serum, you must first cleanse your skin.

I know you’re wondering, “well, how often should I be cleansing?” “How long should I cleanse?” “Should my morning cleansing routine differ from my evening routine?” “What tools should I use to cleanse my skin?”

You should be cleansing morning and night for a minimum of 60 seconds. This feels like a long time however cleansing for 60 seconds allows those active ingredients to penetrate much deeper. We get it, you have a crazy schedule and can’t always fit in a morning and night routine, or maybe you just aren’t a morning person. At a minimum, double cleansing at night is a must.

Double cleansing is the process of using an oil-based cleanser such as the Vitamin Veil first to remove dirt, impurities, makeup and debris from the surface of your skin. This cleanser will soften the skin and prepare the skin for your water based cleanser which will cleanse your pores. In the morning, you simply need one cleanse to remove any toxins excreted from the skin throughout the night. This gives you a fresh start to the day.

Now before you run out to grab that expensive cleansing brush, I want to present you with the most useful tool there is…your hands! Brushes and washcloths tend to be too abrasive for your face and often harbor bacteria. Just be sure to wash your hands first to avoid spreading bacteria.

Now you know the basics to get you started with properly cleansing your skin. If you aren’t sure which cleanser best suits your skin’s needs, schedule your New Client Skin Assessment for an in-depth consultation and analysis of your skin, its needs and a customized ski care treatment.
